Anyone out there got a genuine Panama Hat?

I almost bought one in Greece but at 150 euro it was not perfect so
backed out.

It is a fascinating subject and I have been researching Panama Hats
fore some time now.

Any anal thoughts about hats in general ?

I bought one from a posh hatters in Cambridge some years ago. I found
that on windy days I spent a lot of time chasing it. Last year after it
gathering dust for many years it went to a charity shop. Now I wear a
silly looking sun hat that I bought in a NYC subway station shop for
three Bucks.My wife soon pointed out that the only other people wearing
that type of hat were the Black Guys who hang around the streets. Guess
that I now have street cred Bro.

Yes I have dug out a Pith Helmet, an F1 cap, a Deer stalker, a Balaclava
and a Bowler. Of course I look stupid in all of them (ok I look stupid
without them) so why pay over £100 to look stupid?

I do have a good quality woolly hat that I purchases in NY.
I say I purchased it but I was sort of mugged by a social worker in Times
square in front of four NYPD cops.
Just cant turn down a good hat.

I have a NYC woolly hat as well bought from Kmart on my last visit. A
later regret was not buying a NYPD Blue baseball cap from a shop near the
15th Precinct.
How much did you pay the social worker for the hat?. There used to be a
lot of people in that area with a spiel to tourists who they hoped would
buy a CD or a book from them.

Well it started out as a good deal.
The hats are good quality and at $10 or so each it was not too bad.
Unfortunately I ended up buying 5 so I sort of got fleeced.
I don't mind though as my daughters think its cool to have NY hats.
In the euphoria of all the lights on the Christmas tree and the music, horse
drawn cartages, yellow cabs and the crowds. it was a top hole experience I
would not trade for anything.
