Calm down, dear, it's only a link!
<Michael Winner mode = OFF>
I really wish now I hadn't bothered. Somebody in another newsgroup posted a link to a site called Oldbailey.org. On an impulse I clicked on the link and found a page with pictures of middle-aged leather-clad bikers attending some sort of meet. One of the pictures was captioned with something like "Jack Hackett tucks into a burger". So I thought I'd post the link as being mildly amusing. (When I was at school a friend and I were punished for pasting a picture on the main noticeboard of a convicted armed robber who had the same name as our headmaster. Even after the passing of many years, I still can't resist the childish impulse to do these things!) Little did I suspect that this innocent act would give birth to such a flurry of silly speculation as to my motives.
If I may proceed, m'lud, to outline the case for the defence?
(1) I don't know and have never met Jack.
(2) I am not actually interested in knowing what he looks like although if I ever decide that I do want to meet him it might be a useful thing to know. I have no doubt that his appearance will be well within acceptable norms and probably correspond to my mental picture of him as a model of logic and erudition.
(3) I do have a lot of time on my hands, it is true, but I manage to fill it quite well without "trawling the net for pictures of Jack".
(4) Although it is true that Jack posts as "JackH", a quick glimpse of the origin of his posts, which are plain to see at the top of each message, shows jackhackettuk@xxxxxxxxxxxx In other words, m'lud, I am only relying on publicly visible information and have not gone to immense lengths and employed devious measures to reveal his secret identity.
Finally, if the poster who considers that I have "inadvertently blurted out a little too much information" would care to go public with whatever it is that he has, it might be quite interesting. I'm quite looking forward to finding out about my "indiscretion" and the more amusing it is the better I'll enjoy it. Apart from the unfortunate episode with the goat, in respect of which I must stress again that no charges were ever brought, my life is an open book.
Cheers.

You've spoilt the fun now, you should know better.There's nothing that gets a newsgroup going more than collective paranoia. The "inadvertently blurted out a little too much information" line is evidence of that. You appear not to have half as much time on your hands as some posters, you've kept them occupied for three days.
Now about that goat?
