200 years ago, all of the Bible was accepted as literal fact. Science has now made many of those beliefs unsustainable but Christians have an unending ability to shift the goalposts.
The simple fact is that the Earth was not created by "God" (if it was, then who or what created God?) and when we die, we will not go to heaven or hell, regardless of the way in which we conducted our lives.
That's a simplistic argument which isn't logical for if "God" didn't create the Earth or the Universe then who or what did? The general consensus cop-out from what I've read is that its "always been there" which conveniently gets round a fundamental law of physics that matter cannot be created. Philosophers and scientists have been debating this question for hundreds of years and have not come up with the answer. I doubt whether we will on ulk.
