Anyone visiting a website can easily be traced to ISP. It is done through
the log file usually a directory named W3SVC1136716192. Some folks just
turn the log file off because it contributes to the amount of disk space
used. But it is useful in seeing who is visiting the site - information
such as ISP, browser, platform, time of day and all kinds of interesting
stuff is obtainable. You analyze the information with a program like
webtrends.
The IP address can of course tell quite a bit (if that IP is used to post to
newsgroups and is static - dial ups are another matter).
