So What
Is it wrong to buy a couple of pints, use a loo, watch a movie etc.
Not at the moment. But can you guarantee that what we regard as innocent activities today will always be seen as such?
What if the increasingly nanny state decides that buying more than X pints a week is a bad idea and you have to produce your ID card whenever you buy alcohol, get refused if you exceed your limit and have to submit to an alcohol re-education programme?
What if spending too much time in the gents on a regular basis gives them an idea that you might be cottaging and people you know start getting asked strange questions about you?
What if watching certain types of film becomes regarded as an indication of 'anti-state' sentiments and you get put on a watch list, your phone is tapped and your mail intercepted?
ID cards aren't just for today and they aren't just for the current government. All governments would like to have complete control of their citizenry, as it would make implementing their policies so much easier (just look at the way Our Glorious Leader and his gang are currently undermining democracy to get their way). If you accept ID cards like a sheep you're inviting the sort of despotic regime this country has fought against for hundreds of years. Don't do it.
