I could do with some suggestions for somewhere to go for a meal out for
my old mam's 90th birthday in July.
I live abroad and will be coming back for the occasion, but I have lost
touch with nice places to go in the Newcastle area. We could either go
for an evening meal on the Saturday night, or out somewhere in the
country for a good old Sunday lunch.
My brother lives just outside Newcastle but he has no real ideas as to
where to go, so any suggestions would be most welcome.
I'd prefer not to go to some Toby-type place (although some carveries
can be very good) and if it was a Sunday lunch, somewhere out of town
but near the motorway would be good so people can easily get back to
their respective places in the Midlands and Lincs that evening.
A Saturday evening do may be better out of town too, rather than brave
the boozed-up hordes in the Toon uv a Sat'dy neet with a 90 year old
hobbling about..
Any type of food would be OK, but perhaps a decent Thai place, or
something out of the ordinary.

Now tried
Wooden Doll - N.Shields. Good food Spectacular View over the river
Looked in Low Lights N.S. Very small room, limited menu, but informed it is
good, but not cheap for where it is. Didn't stay.
Magnesia Bank N.S. has had a bit of a makeover. Bar menu usual prices and
specials a bit expensive, but large and good.
