Re: Local Live (just like google earth)

Sometime on Fri, 19 May 2006 09:15:51 +0100, Mark Hewitt scribbled:

They look a bit more recent too, can anyone pin down a year? I'm guessing a
couple of years old. Behind the law courts the travelodge extension is under
construction, however in the google version it hasn't started yet.

I suspect the age of the photos will vary from area to area over a period
of years, possibly even down to quite small areas as they'd want cloud
free days only. For example, the A1(M) Wetherby by-pass by-pass isn't
even under construction in the MS photos and that took a couple or three
years from start to finish. Interestingly, with labels switched on, the
actual route of the new A1(m) is shown in outline but further down, the
recently opened A1(M) Ferrybridge By-pass is not shown at all. Both the
photos and the ghosted road map image shows the A1 passing Ferrybridge
power station on the east side past the services, not the new route past
the west side of the power station.

Having had a look around, they seem to have been less discriminating in
their choice of photos over open countryside as there are some cloud
shadows which suggest that, like multimap first and later google earth,
some of the photos are standard aerial photos, not satellite photos. I
suppose it all boils down to who is selling what at the time and at the
lowest price.
