Music for the over Fifties

On holiday, we were ejected, politely, from the public swimming pool to
make way for the over fifties. I could see a couple of decrepit
individuals arriving at reception and figured they must be there for
the over fifty hour. The lifeguard moved toward the CD player which
was blasting out something by REM for the remaining swimmers, she must
be going to play some music for these new over 50 customers I thought.
I calculated quickly someone born in 1956 would have been 11 during the
so called summer of love -1967, twenty during that long hot summer of
76, maybe I guessed, she'll put on some punk music from the seventies.
Not a bit of it, the CD contained a load of singalongmax songs starting
with 'Tulips from Amsterdam'. So this is the music for the over
fifties. I've know a few over people over fifty and none of them like
Max Bygraves. I note courtesy of Amazon that some of the
SingalongaMax albums have Max dressed in a war time ARP helmet, a bit
like Mr Hodges in Dad's Army.
