Hi

The only thing we left in Vegas was a fair amount of money. But thenOne time we were staying in Las Vegas, we were talking to a chap at the
that's what Vegas is there for. I played a 1 cent slot machine for an
hour until my dollar ran out. Mrs. Johnny invested considerably more on
several occasions.
bar who was playing a tabletop video poker game. This was around 6.00pm
and apparently he was $120 up. When we passed the bar the next morning
on our way to breakfast, he was still sitting in the same seat so I
(jokingly) asked if he had been there all night and how much he had now
won. Apparently he quite literally had been there all night, but had
now lost around $150. we shook our heads sadly and went on our way.
Actually, my wife generally wins on the tabletop poker games, her most
impressive winning streak being a huge $15 from an initial stake of $2.
Vegas is not my kind of place, I'm afraid. But we'll go back to the areaYou have hit the nail on the head there. My wife and I have been to Las
as there's a lot of great places to visit nearby.
Vegas several times, purely because it is a convenient place to fly to
from the UK, and accommodation is so cheap. We usually stay a couple of
nights to get over the flight, then pick up a rental car, find a
Wal-Mart or similar to stock up on charcoal, beer, steaks, etc., before
heading off into the staggeringly spectacular wilds of Utah with our
tent, usually doing a huge loop and ending up in Los Angeles to stay
with my wife's brother. We once stayed at the "Border Inn" right on the
Nevada/Utah border, the border going quite literally right through the
bar next door. All the slot machines were crammed at the Nevada end of
the bar!!!
However her brother has now moved to Tennessee, but by coincidence we
were saying just this morning that we really miss camping in the US
desert so next time we visit him we must start off with another camping
trip to the Southwest (probably starting in Las Vegas) and then fly to
Atlanta to see him.
Having said that this would probably mean starting in Las Vegas, we
would like to see more of New Mexico so it could be Albuquerque.

I think your bar friend was still there. There were plenty of zombie-like
characters of both sexes sitting at video poker tables or slots with a
cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other. The casinos quite
literally stink of cigarette smoke mixed with a permanent staleness to
the air - probably from the carpets which must take a beating spill-wise.
I love New Mexico. I haven't been back since I visited it about 6 times
in 1980-81. The direct flights from Chicago to Albuquerque were best for
me as I could get to Chicago easily from here.
We plan on doing a road tour of the SW as I love it and Mrs Johnny has
never seen it other than her two trips to Vegas. But I'm not sure when
that will happen. It's been on the agenda for a couple of decades at
least now. She wants to do it on motorcycles!
I don't understand why your BIL in Tennessee is to be visited in Atlanta
Georgia though.
Johnny
