Hi Ally

Well I'm neither a Christian nor an Atheist but somewhere in
between,
So you are an agnostic!!!!
Or Deist, patheist, panentheist, animist, ancestor-ist, bhuddist,
pagan,
new-age-whatever, ...
Ally likes her labels. She finds them useful.

Johnny-remindingly
Since when?

Well, I like labelling files and storage containers, it's true.

ally
You do???

Well how else are you going to know what's in them, when they're
otherwise
identical? I have several shelves' worth of box files of sheet music,
for
instance. I don't want to wade through them each time I'm looking for
something, or try to remember that the one with Christmas music for
recorders is on the second shelf, seventh from the left.

I don't label as there are too many classes of stuff to classify, but I
have a mental system. I keep things in a 'tidy basket' and once every
couple of months I put something in one box for Pinny or a 3-drawer
storage unit for me, (work/work benefits on top, not work in middle and
receipts and instructions on bottom).

Hi

A (Christian) friend of mine has a system whenever he moves house
(which, at one time, he seemed to do on a regular basis).

He seals things in (into??) boxes and puts what he isn't immediately
going to use in(to) the loft.

Twelve months later he climbs in(to) the loft, brings down all the
boxes which are still sealed and throws them out without looking
inside - if he hasn't wanted them for twelve months, then he doesn't
need them.

You have no idea how uncomfortable that makes me feel! I have stuff in my
attic that's been kept, and moved around, for 5 generations of our family.
Not a lot remains from my great-great granny's time, it's true, but there
are things - an enormous linen bed-sheet, for example, embroidered in white
thread along the selvedge with her, and her husband's names, obviously part
of her trousseau, for it also includes the date of their marriage in
17-something. There are books from that era too. We don't read them, it's
true, but I love poking through the boxes from time to time, handling these
things, getting a sense of these people whom I never knew but who
unknowingly passed on some of their genes (and some of their books!) to me.

It's much easier to get rid of my own stuff, and I regularly fill bags and
boxes for the charity shop. I can sometimes bring myself to unload some of
my parents' stuff, too, but the further back I go in the family tree, the
more precious the things become.

I guess your friend has a very tidy, very minimalist house. We're all
different, and it's probably just as well, but I'd die of boredom in such a
place!
