Hia Lou. How's life?
Oh ok, thanks Edith - how about yourself?
Only 2 more weeks of the school holidays and G can rerturn to his
education rather than spending his days trashing the house and
garden!
On Sunday we took him to the Manchester Airport Viewing Park, which is
a basically a large field next to the runway containing a restaurant,
Concord(e), and a shop, on which a number of anorak-types congregate
to look at planes landing and taking-off. G loves planes so we spent 3
hours watching numerous jets, it was really dull particularly as not
one of them crashed - very poor considering we paid £5 to get in!
There were many couples there with their binoculars, radios, and
little notebooks, obviously taking note of the aeroplane numbers and
stuff, but I really couldn't see the fascination. Still, we had a look
inside Concord(e), had some lunch, and I managed to fend off most
technical questions asked by my boy with 'it's a jumbo jet'.
Lou
Thanks for explaining what that Concorde is doing parked at the Manchester
Airport. I've always wondered. If you're down south you should go to
Yoevelton and visit the Fleet Air Arm Museum where they have the original
Concorde test plane (a bit anachronistically as the FAA never flew
Concordes). It was only ever flown as a testbed during the sixties I
believe. It's got no passenger seats but rows of test stations for
evaluting the aircraft systems during the development of the Concorde.
Those test stations are museum pieces as well. All analog and gigantic. I
could replace the lot of them with one laptop data acquisition station
these days.
