Meany. The Child Benefit we get goes into it's own account which is only drawn upon to pay for things like piano lessons and
school trips away. The latter would be a real struggle to fund in the time scale the schools demand, we don't want them to miss
out of the experiences of going away and we get a week of relative peace. B-) If one, other or both go to university it will be
used to help for that as well, though we haven't quite worked out how to divvy up what is currently a joint fund in a fair
manner. It may mean that they will be able to go through university and not come out the other end with a £15,000 (at current
prices) "student loan". What a way to start your working life, £15,000 in debt...

I drew it out every few months to buy the kids' Startrites. I wish I'd known I was coming to the States. My daughter doesn't have
a Student Loan because in 2003, when she started, we weren't permanent residents and couldn't apply. They would offer us a
secured loan against our house though, which her dad and I pay down.

£15K is a bit less than in the States the more well-known universities charge upwards of $30K (Harvard is $33K) a year for a
four-year bachelor's degree. Other academic fees and lodgings are extra. State colleges are more like the UK and, with State and
Federal subsidy, charge residents between $5k and $10k annually for tuition, and then a couple of grand in fees and living
expenses.... Then there's the books...and the transport costs...

Same here. Students get a lone. Some get a (stipend) skolarship. They all end up with debt in the end. It's not a good way to build
up a land.
