I was thinking of hiring a pub for an evening. Can't cost all that
much for only four hours-but getting it together is like wading in
treacle. There's always The British Legion.

Edith.

Did you win the lottery or something? Renting a pub would a) cost a fortune
and b) you'd never find a good pub who would close for a private party in
the middle of tourist season.

The lake cruise sounds good except there's the risk of the whole newsgroup
going down like the Titanic.

Only strong swimmers would be allowed, then. Or people with enough body fat to float, I suppose. (I'm in on both counts, I guess.)

Especially those on mini-crossers. And all the
women would complain about being cold after ten minutes (max).

__all__ the women? Excuse me. I'm the one who swims in the North Sea without a shiver. And Edith - well, we've swum together in
the Oslo Fjord and it was just gently bracing. WE wouldn't complain about the cold, would we Edith? We'd just drop overboard and
make the rest of them look like wimps.

Well, that's true enough. Ally and I are definitely water hens.

But there'd be no point in hiring a launch unless there was a good number of people.

Actually, we've done something like this on a Belfagan Weekend Of Dance, now I come to think of it, and we didnt' have to take
over the whole launch: we just booked the right number of tickets in advance. The boat was nearly full of morris dancers, which
was a hoot, with all the melodions and concertinas playing. The few tourists who managed to squeeze on as well seemed to see it as
an unexpected bit of free entertainment, which they mostly enjoyed. I hope.

I've been on the launch once, in hot weatther, sat at the back, windows open and I was almost monoxide poisoned. Do the trip, please
do but count me out. The trip was boring and I couldn't wait to get off. Besides, they don't serve refreshments onboard.

Edith.
