Flipin 'eck even me, as a bloke, would have been down the docs with
something that bad. I wouldn't go down at onset but if it hadn't improved
in 24 to 48hrs I would.

Those are classic symptoms of a quite severe infection, you are lucky it
didn't progress to septicemia (blood poisoning). If that doesn't kill you
you'll be hospitalised, possibly in intensive care, for a while.
