Yes, it's a horrifying thought, isn't it? Laptops bouncing onto the
carousel! I agree with you about letting your laptop out of your
sight. They might have to think of some clever way of checking
laptops.
It would have to be pretty clever.
Anyway, it's transmitters as detonators that they're trying to
restrict, isn't it, combined with a combination of liquid exposive?
Can a transmitter not be easily detected?
Not if it's turned off when being checked.
I know if I put my cellphone
too close to my computer, it picks up some signal and starts to squeak
and splutter! Maybe there should be a special sealed box in the cabin
where the stewardess could keep cellphones.
Wi-fi on laptops could easily be used. Wi-fi on anything for that matter.
Then just old-fashioned FM transmitters could be slipped in to something
else which continues to operate normally.
Car keys are another thing. Why would anyone need their remote for
their car, anyway?
I agree. Leave the car key fob at home.
I can remember, before 9/11, when I was travelling from Aberdeen to
Houston, via London or Amsterdam, my son, then about 7 or 8 years of
age,was asked at the security check to turn on his GameBoy and
demonstrate that it was indeed a genuine, functioning GameBoy. His
cuddly toy was also x-rayed.
Doesn't stop someone from adding a wee circuit to the Gameboy. I think
western prejudices came into play there - assumed the terrorists were not
smart enough to do something simple like take advantage of a working
circuit and battery. I thought that was stupid.
I know it makes things slower, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Sure. We'd rather be safe. But you can't be absolutely safe even in your
own home. Going to war, even if it's against a noun like 'terrorism' it
means making sacrifices. But it also means fighting to preserve your way
of life or else why are we fighting? So far, all the 'war' measures seem
to be doing the terrorists job for them by destroying our way of life.
They're using our fear against us. While the agencies responsible defend
us to the best of their abilities, we should carry on as usual, be brave
and take our lumps. That is the way to defeat these guys. Right now all
they do is say boo - in a low budget way I would point out - and we are
so frightened that we're willing to destroy our way of life, our economy
- bankrupt airlines and put those families who work for them out on the
street for instance. Yes, I'm talking about Ally.
