Oh dear! Here was I thinking of a fishing bait box. Presumably this
bait box is an Americanism?

It is an expression used in Cumbria for lunch, probably derived from
the days when anglers took their lunch with them as well as a tin of
worms with which to use as bait. Sometimes getting them mixed up if
pissed.
