I always thought that tinker was the trade and many gypsies plied that
trade.
The gypsies who lived temporarily on the Cowbit wash, when I was a child,
used to call at the door to see of there were any pots to mend. \they
certainly lived in the traditional decorated caravans. One of them -
Boswells they were- settled down near Cowbit and runs a Romany museum with
his parents' van fully restored, as one of the exhibits.
