Re: Islam is a Joke

Quite. Just what I've been saying all along. People are
people, and it takes more than a religion of whatever sort
to change their basic nature. The vast majority of people
just want to get on with their lives as quietly as
possible: raise a family; earn a living; laugh a bit; cry a
bit (but not too much); and generally keep out of trouble.
Wherever you go there'll be a few who want to rock the boat
for the rest of us, but it's not their religion that makes
them like this - the fact that troublemakers exist all over
the planet is evidence of this. They may use their local
beliefs to back up whatever trouble they're causing, of
course, but the religion isn't the cause - it's their
excuse for the troublemaking.

You're an apologist for religions? Good grief!

It's a fact that religions do have a tremendous influence on
people and do control their values and beliefs that makes them
guilty in my mind. You are aware of religious leaders who do
insight tremendous acts of bad behaviour. From popes to
pedophiles to "profits" to Paisley; they are integral. Sure
some people are looking for trouble and use their religion for
an excuse, but I don't believe most people would simply find
some other excuse to misbehave. You can't honestly believe all
the upset Islamics in the world would still all be upset today
even if Islam didn't exist? Islamic clerics have taught
Islamics a belief system. It's friction between cultures and
beliefs in which religions played a huge role in defining. And
there's no honest effort by any religion to work out
differences with other religions (or atheists for that
matter). It's the differences which define each religion. It
would be suicide for a religion to settle differences.
Religions take royal advantage of human behaviour. There's
more behavioural psychology in the history of the rise of
Christianity than facts about Jesus.

People will find what good or bad they want to in whatever for
any number of reasons. It is often a matter of fear, or
comfort or convenience and always lazy thinking and abdication
of personal responsibility.
