Re: Islam is a Joke

Islam isn't a race.

Of course you are right. I was caught up in the fun Ally
started.

Pellucid started all this as a discussion of racist Cumbrians as
suggested by a BBC survey. I thought it had come full circle
with Ally accusing Pellucid of being a racist Cumbrian!

Ahh. I missed that particular irony.

But Pellucid has been fairly consitent in ranting only about
'Muslims'. He did stray a bit as in

"Why are we still importing Pakistani's and Muslims..." Jan 14,
3:54 pm.

Is that a racist question ? The essence of racism lies in the
supposition that one race is somehow superior to another
(which leads to discrimination, etc..) I don't see any such
supposition in his question (which is not to say that it isn't
behind it - he may well be a racist - merely that it isn't evident.)

However, my bad. He's simply a raving Islamophobe. Islamophobia
[1] is, as are other religious intolerances, a form of
prejuduice, in the same class as racism [2].

I strongly disagree. Your race, like your chromosomal gender, is
(Michael Jackson notwithstanding ) whatever you were born with.
Your religion, like your politics, is a matter of choice.

Thank you for correcting me.

1. Kofi Annan, Dec 7, 2004 coined the "neologism" when he said
"the world is compelled to coin a new term to take account of
increasingly widespread bigotry ? that it is a sad and troubling
development. Such is the case with 'Islamophobia'."

2. See Wikipedia: Prejudice

From Wikipedia:
"Prejudice is, as the name implies, the process of "pre-judging"
something. It implies coming to a judgment on a subject before
learning where the preponderance of evidence actually lies, or forming
a judgment without direct experience."

So, Islamophobia would seem only constitute a prejudice in a
person who was ignorant of Islam.

I wonder how you would describe Islamophobia born of
knowledge of Islam?
