The village of Birkby itself - if you can call a collection of about 10
houses and a farm a village - is on the main A596, and some distance from
the colliery/brickworks site. I'd suspect the Huddersfield firm is named
after a Mr Birkby rather than a place, though this is just a guess of
course.
