The furthest north I made it those days was to Manchester. I took my finals
at the university there. By the time I went first to Cumbria, in about 1959,
I was running an old Standard ten car.

I'm afraid one or two of my teenage mates didn't make it because of bike
accidents. Crash helmets were not compulsory in those days.
