This is quite reassuring, as most of it is what I'd do myself. In the old days when we used to get snow and ice every winter in Scotland, I always kept warm clothes, blankets, wellies and a big shovel in the back of the car in the winter as well as odd bits of food that won't go off quickly (things like bags of nuts and chocolate bars and apples). The shovel was the thing that got used the most. Sometimes you were compelled to drive along the ruts in the snow that the cars before you had made. This was fine until you wanted to turn off the main road. I often had to stop and dig a new rut into the side road. I actually prefer driving in snow to driving on slippery, icy roads. Less chance of skidding. I miss my old Subaru 4WD in wintry conditions, though.Having spent many a winter in Scotland, I also made a habit of taking a shovel, blankets, chocolate bars and a decent pair of Canadian sheepskin snowboots with me. I miss having the ski-rack on the car and I haven't used snowchains for year. My Audi diesel was a superb starter.

The only time I've come a cropper in the snow, was when a car braked at the foot of a hill, at the stop sign, and continued to glide forward on the ice, and into the offside passenger door of my car! The young passenger in the other cars was terrified that I would be very angry - because I was her teacher!
