That would doubtless acount for their ability to gather as many as

No its the prospect of being harassed by police that deters most of
them.
That never deters genuine protestors interested in a genuine cause.
There have been loads of demonstrations where many thousands have
taken to the streets. Two dozen is an abject failure, yet again. I
could organise a bigger picnic than that just from my street.
I think you will find that major demonstations in the UK have sought
police approval first so the participants have little to fear.
Excellent. Just as it should be.
how cvan they complain? The government can do as it likes after it has
As nothing can be done to stop the war by voting, it is obviously
down to public protesters to try to do their best against their
powerful and repressive, warlike government.
Nothing can be done about it _at all_. It's a done deal. And it's
as pointless protesting against it as it is protesting about
Britain's involvement in the slave trade.
So you agree about our government and its unaccountability?
We are all accountable for the governments we elect. Apart from
those who don't vote of course, who rightly have no say in what
those governments do.
So what about our governments who are almost always empowered by a
minority of the electorate and therefore do not have the support of a
majority of the population?
Those who voted against can complain.
been elected and can ignore its manifesto/
None of us have a say anyway.
Those who didn't vote at all have no
right to complain. They took no part in the process. They have no say in
the consequences.
Rubbish. If the troops are withdrawn it will revert to the same old
Of course this small bunch of
protesters are not alone, there are many others up and down the
country who frequently protest against our government's seemingly
endless wars in which many innocent civilians are killed,
including children. These wars are not defensive responses to any
other sovereign nation making war on Britain but instead are
reminiscent of Britain's old colonisation habits and are done
under the pretext of installing by force a democratic ideology.
So, the solution is immediate withdrawal, is it? Don't you think
that might actually precipitate more deaths by an inevitable power
struggle and civil war? Because that's the reality.
No the solution is not to start these invasions in the first place.
But that's not what the protest is about. You yourself said above
that "They are opposed to the war in Afghanistan", not some future
war that hasn't happened. What is it that they want to happen now
about 'the war in Afghanistan' specifically?
Withdrawal or our troops which is opposed by the USA. Let the USA
fight alone if it wants to, since they are the ones who started it
all.
I see. They're not opposed to the _war_ in Afghanistan at all then, just
the involvement of British troops there. Nice of them to be so concerned
about our brothers in arms, but it hardly seems a matter of principle if
they're not opposed to the whole thing. So, you accept that a total
withdrawal of troops would result in an inevitable power struggle and civil
war, but you don't mind the Americans staying to prevent that happening.
Are you sure you're not a Tory politician?
tribal conflicts in which fewer people die than if the country is
invaded by the West. Also, there will be less reason for a terrorist
reaction.
Its just a party. The system it operates under stays the same.
As
far as protesters are concerned It helps to try to discredit the
government every time it happens as there is no other avenue
available open in this pretence of ademocracy.
Well, that's nice. You try to discredit a totally new government for
the acts of one before that has been democratically thrown out
precisely because of what it did. Where's the logic in that?
Ity is not a new government, its the same old same old Tweedledee and
Tweedledum.
Of course it's a new government. Don't be absurd.
A stupid question from someone who doesn't give a damn about war or
That said I do approve of Cameron's outspokenness on the
World stage, i.e. that we are only a junior partner with the US and
Pakistan breeds terrorists etc., but wonder how long the system will
allow him to continue with this openness. I give it about a year
before he is compelled to conform to the usual diplomatic doubletalk.
Here is the latest update on the Democracy Villagers, wjho obviously
are far from giving in to overbearing authoritarianism.
" Democracy village, week 13: we fight on until the soldiers come
home!
Exactly what the new government wants too then.
How many protestors does it take to open an open door? That's the question.
