Three sacked over indecent images

Three people have been sacked by Nottinghamshire County Council after
"highly inappropriate" images were found on computers at the
authority.

One person was sacked after specialist software found the pictures and
two others were dismissed before an inquiry into the images had begun.

An investigation found 10,000 inappropriate pictures, of which 2,700
were deemed "highly inappropriate".

The council said the images were found on 232 computers of 975 tested.

Just 12% of the authorities computers have so far been checked by the
software which detects inappropriate pictures, the rest of the
machines will be scanned over the coming months.

'Not illegal'

Managers instigated the investigation after a sweep of all
Nottinghamshire County Council's machines using specialist software
found the problem.

The images were not illegal or of child abuse, the council said.

The pilot programme run on the council's machines reviewed about 12%
of the authority's 8,500 computers, and the initial scan identified
232 out of 975 computers which contained highly inappropriate images
that had been viewed.

"Highly inappropriate" images are classed as those which include
graphic nudity, sexual acts, extreme injury and mutilation, and
violence.

The developers who provided the scanning software told the council the
findings were in line with that of other employers.

Interesting. Certainly shows just how wide current definitions of
'indecent' are becoming in the new Inquisition and also sheds more
light on just why the filth like to confiscate personal PC's on such a
regular basis, even for completely unrelated offences: statistically
they know they are in with a good shout of finding something
'indecent' on just about anyone's PC if they look hard enough.

Of course they are. I bet you theres a hell of a lot of plods out
there with "indecent" info on their own machines too.

McKevvy

Work computers or their own, at home?
Both, I'd have said.
I don't think there is anything wrong with this. People shouldn't use their
work computers for non-work stuff or, if limited personal use is allowed,
abuse the system by downloading dodgy stuff. Keep it clean, isn't that
hard.
