when approaching a trailing slip
road, not the other way round.

By what logic?

I sense the start of another "Why the hell should I?" argument!

Considerate drivers, who 'read the road' and drive in a manner which
maximises the smooth traffic flow, naturally try to move from Lane 1 to
Lane 2 in order to allow sliproad traffic to merge with the main
carriageway. But there many who argue "Why the hell should I?"

It's a point of courtesy. I do it whenever traffic conditions permit. See my
opinions on the incident upthread.
