The two big carriers were never going to get built,
They are in the process of being built now the hull blocks are being welded
up already. Any cancellation will cost millions as some of the items have a
very long lead time.
If it is decided that they are no longer needed it will probably be cheaper
to build them but never put them into use than to ancel the contract.
The "Sunk Costs" or "Concorde" fallacy. Also known as the "Our Boys Shall Not Have Died In Vain" fallacy.
