Many thanks indeed. I have looked at these 3 websites. The Gaynor
Smith and Owen don't mention criminal matters on their website at all.
The Directory sometimes include firms that no longer do legal aid, or
all the categories of law they used to.
The other 2 appear more general practitioners in criminal matters and
don't mention common assault as a parent. I have emailed the
Birmingham practices and will see the replies I get.
They are both big practices. Chances are high that they will have
handled just such a case before.
Just had an email from Jonas Roy Bloom to say that Legal Aid wouldn't
stretch to travel to Worcester so they would not be able to take on my
case. Its an hour by train with no changes, or less by car.
I don't know if you saw this or if it is any use?

Very much so. The bit I'm surprised about was that a slap to the face
and a 'hit' on the side of the face were deemed acceptable though I
suppose the act doesn't expressedly forbid it.
In fact this passage makes interesting reading "On an unspecified
occasion, or occasions, "M was slapped on her hand by her parents, she
was slapped on her face by her mother, kicked by her father, kicked by
her mother, hit on the side of her face by her father, hit to the
right hand side of her face, kicked and pushed by her father."
But put into perspective "But it could equally amount, in fact, to no
more than a handful of isolated minor acts of chastisement forgotten
as soon as administered."
Also The judge added: "Yes, it amounts to ill treatment, and therefore
to harm"
Many thanks for that example.
