Re: Road Traffic Offense

Burnley Lad:

If this is true then plead absolutely nothing to anyone; in fact don't
even SPEAK to anyone about this until you've spoken with a good
CRIMINAL lawyer.

If there's anyone you know who's been charged with a criminal offence
before, then ask them who they had representing them and then pick the
lawyer with the most good references. If no one can recommend anyone
to you then visit your local Citizen's Advice Bureau and ask them for
a few recommendations. Then go and book yourself an urgent appointment
with that lawyer and tell them the truth from start to finish.

Don't worry about the costs; as this is a criminal matter and (I'm
assuming) your parents aren't millionaires, then you'll qualify for
legal aid so it shouldn't cost you a penny.

If you really had nothing to do with the theft or the accident then I
doubt you'll get jail time (as long as this is your first offence) but
you really need an experienced solicitor running this to give you any
chance. Don't take any solicitor recommended by the police; they have
something of a temptation to pick ones who are sympathetic to their
cause.
