I suppose now his country has disowned him, he needs to appeal to
the ECHR, on the basis that the USA use torture to extract
information from british prisoners perceived to be involved in
"terrorist" activity.
Or maybe he could grow some balls, fly to the US and stand trial for
his alleged crimes.
About as much chance of a fair trial as Salman Rushdie would have if
he went to Iran to face the music.
The prosecution addresses the jury (if they bother with one): -
"Fellow loyal Americans the defendant is gay / pinko / communist /
atheist / liberal foreigner who tried to destabilize the USA - should
he get 60 years?"
Foreman - life plus 60 years.
As opposed to a trial in the UK where his "aspergers" claim would
ensure nothing came of it?
I have a feeling that a trial would uncover a lot more of his actions
than we're being told about.
I don't have the details to hand, but I seem to remember that the claim
of the American authorities involved in terms of the damage they
suffered was insanely lavish...
That's my point, a trial would have to expose real supported facts and a sentence (or not) could be fairly decided.
It's in the US's interests to overstate their case, and it's in McKinnon's interests to understate his part.
