Google throws up no hits at all with that spelling.
I've never seen google vomit in response to any word, but it does return
several hundred thousand websites with reference to the word "gunnel".

Indeed it does, but not in respect to part of a ship.

Very first link from google search for gunnnel

Gunnel may refer to:

* Gunnel (fish), a family of elongated fish
* Gunnel (ship element), the top edge of the side of a boat
* USS Gunnel (SS-253), a Gato-class submarine

There's a LOT of deja vu in this grouop.
Another one who hasn't grasped the way usenet works
What, I post EXACTLY the same info a *DAY* before.. and can't expect
some fuckwit to *READ* the thread before adding his *WORTHLESS*
contribution of the *SAME* thing?
Usenet works better than conversations - where if you've nipped off to
the bar and missed half the converation, your opinions are quickly
laughed off as 'so ten minutes ago'.
Usenet relies on messages propagating through the network. Something
that fails to happen on occasion. A server misses. Another server has
a short retention period. Messages get lost. Parts of threads go
missing. I have a count of 31 messages on this thread. How many does
your news reader show?
Try subscribing to a better server then. May I suggest news.individual.net

Doesn's seem to have these problems you mysteriuously find.
I still blame a lazy reader.

OH just FOAD>
<handbags>

Funny how your newsreader works 99.9% of the time.. ie when it suits you.
Lol

S tell us how many posts you have in this thread

I've no idea, right at this moment - nor do I see the point really -
because I use at *least* three different computers a day - home, work,
travelling; and download the latest X posts to each rather than
downloading ALL posts to each computer. Therefore each computer does not
have a complete set of posts for each thread.

But it should. If you are subscribing to the same server you should
get an identical number of posts.

I have a netbook with Agent installed. It will download anything from
the usenet server that is on it. Since the server is the same as the
one on my main computer I expect to get an identical list of posts. The
point you fail to grasp is that some messages simply do not propagate
fully.

To count *my* posts accurately, I'd have to delete the server on one
computer and resubscribe and download all - which is a bit extreme when
you're trying to make some obscure point.

My newsreader shows the number of messages downloaded in each thread.
I can check google and find the count on that is different to the
count on my computer. If I pick another server I may well find some
posts download while others are missing.

Yet, despite juggling three computers, *I* manage to keep abreast of
where each thread is *up to*, as do most posters.
I'm sure you can *too*, with a little practise.

I have had no problems in the last 13 years that have given me any
cause for concern. The nature of the system means that sometimes posts
go missing. Live with it.
