Shipped from Northern Ireland to the UK? Wow!
Most people are confused a bit by the politico-geographical
terminologies.
As far as I know, this is what it all means:
BRITAIN = The island of Britain comprising England, Scotland, Wales
and offshore islands, including Scilly, Orkney, Shetland, Wight,
Rockall, etc., but not the Channel Islands and Isle of Man;
GREAT BRITAIN = Britain and Northern Ireland and their offshore
islands, but not the Channel Islands and Isle of Man;
UNITED KINGDOM / UK = The same meaning as Great Britain;
CHANNEL ISLANDS AND ISLE OF MAN = Crown Dependencies, not part of the
European Union(?), not subject to UK or EU laws(?)
Correct me if any of that is wrong, especially re the Channel Islands
and Isle of Man.
Also, to clear up a common misconception, the phrase "Great Britain"
is a purely geographical term to distinguish between the physical
entities - the island of Britain and the UK, the latter of which (UK)
includes Northern Ireland, and prior to 1922, when the term was first
introduced, included all of Ireland. It was never a racist term
implying that white British people are "greater" than others, but only
refers to the "greater" land area of the UK compared to the island of
Britain !
