Most credit cards charge about 1.5% for non-sterling transactions,
Post office and Nationwide are the only ones I know that don't. Some
list it as a separarte charge, others hide it in the exchange rate.

Nationwide are introducing charges on their credit and debit cards for
non-euro foreign currency transactions. I can't recall whether they are
also planning on charging for EU non-euro transactions.

That's a bit naughty as the central plank of their advertising has been that
they *don't* charge for using debit or credit cards abroad.

In view of the high profile advertising, I would regard that as an explicit
term of any contract and any attempt to change it as an unlawful unilateral
variation to that contract.
