I don't know what you mean here. The high street stores have higher prices

Then high street stores are doomed. People will be looking to save
money now, big time. It is obvious that a vanload of goods is a far
cheaper way of bringing goods to customers than hordes of shoppers
individually driving to stores with all the overheads of staff, rent,
rates, heating etc. I predict that internet shopping is going to take
off in a really big way in 2009, leaving the high street decimated by
2010. This recession could in fact go down in history as the end of
the high street as we know it, although it will become the Shangri-la
for very small shopkeepers, perhaps, and councils will have to push
down rents and rates to very low figures. Also, as more and more
people shop online the online retailers are going to have to offer
ever more competitive delivery terms. F'rinstance, I buy secondhand
books from Amazon Marketplace. Often a book is offered at a
ridiculously low price, but the delivery charge is always £2.75. Why?
I can post an average paperback for less than a quid. Eventually,
delivery of online goods will be free so that shoppers will be able to
choose only on the price advertised - which might change by the hour,
of course.
And anyway, in many stores today you cannot hold or feel the goods any
more because they are kept in glass display cases for security
reasons. Not many bother with the hassle of finding a member of staff
to unlock the cabinet. It's why I avoid Staples like the plague.
Before buying, say, a DVD writer I want to hold the box, read the
blurb on the back and so on.
