Then you are foolish. There is no doubt that talking on a phone increases
your chances of having a crash, 4 times as likely according to the TV show I
just watched.
What a load of tosh. Your brain assigns priority to the driving.
or perhaps it assigns it to the conversation, how the hell do you know what
priorities other people assign to their brains?
Anyone with an ounce of common sense assigns priority to the dangerous thing. For example if you were about to fall off a cliff, would you continue your conversation on a phone?!?
First you would need to see the cliff, then your brain would need to
recognise it as a hazard.
Which is done automatically without a thought by your conscious mind. When you put your hand on a hot kettle, do you actually think "hmmm this is hot, I think I'll remove it"?
If you see something dangerous up ahead, you simply stop the conversation, and (if it's not a hands free) drop the phone.
The problem is *not* seeing (or predicting) something dangerous up ahead
because you were paying too much attention to the telephone conversation.
Yes.... I stare at my phone while talking and can't see the road ahead. A phone is an audio system!
Most people will look at the screen before answering to see who it is.
You'll know who it is when you talk to them. Anyway it's no different to looking at the speedometer.
I have also seen people sending texts whilst driving, which can't be
done without looking at the screen.
I have done that - but without much looking at the screen. Touchtyping....
Every study on the subject has show holding a telephone conversation
significantly reduces the ability to drive safely (and that it has sod all
to do with the mechanics of holding a phone).
So why are we arrested for using a non-hands-free only?
And why are we not arrested for talking to our spouse in the passenger seat?
The same reason there was only a partial ban on smoking.
The smoking ban is a pile of nonsense, so I don't follow.

A Greek and an Italian were sitting in a Starbucks one day discussing who had the superior culture.
Over triple lattes the Greek guy says, "Well, we have the Parthenon."
Arching his eyebrows, the Italian replies, "We have the Coliseum."
The Greek retorts, "We Greeks gave birth to advanced mathematics."
The Italian, nodding agreement, says, "But we built the Roman Empire."
And so on and so on until the Greek comes up with what he thinks will end the discussion.
With a flourish of finality he says, "We invented sex!"
The Italian replies, "That is true, but it was the Italians who introduced it to women!"
