So I presume if you were reading a book and someone telephoned you could
carry on reading the book at the same speed with the same level of
comprehension during the conversation? You must be very talented - more
talented than anyone I know.
Every study on the subject has show holding a telephone conversation
significantly reduces the ability to drive safely (and that it has sod all
to do with the mechanics of holding a phone).
So why are we arrested for using a non-hands-free only?
Because the law is an ass.
And why are we not arrested for talking to our spouse in the passenger seat?
Because the law isn't that big an ass. A typical conversation with someone
sitting in the car is very different to a typical phone conversation.
But you could not hold a conversation with someone sitting next to you
and read a book at the same time. So something is wrong with your
analogy.
The previous poster claimed the brain is able to process information
independently when it comes from different sources (audio and visual) I
gave book reading as an example showing it can't.
Reading a book can and often will use all available processing power
because you usually read as fast as processing power allows. Driving is
rarely limited by available processing power. Don't I remember you posting
here that you prefer to exceed motorway speed limits to increase the amount
of processing required?
