Ret,

can you *please* fix your newsreader to quote properly.

It's not his newsreader that is at fault. The OP is posting
through Google
Groups which somehow suppresses the responding news reader from
adding the
quote marks ('>').

I think that it is his newsreader - how come it is only a problem
for people using Outlook/Excess

(It may be something which Google introduces - but it is his
newsreader which cannot cope)

Change newsreader problem disappears

Don't post from Google Groups - problem disappears. Why should we
change from OE when it is clearly Google Groups that is causing
the problem?

It is not GG which is causing the problem.

It is Microsoft's uncompliant news clients that cause the problem.

Au contraire. It is Google Groups that causes the problem. I have
no noticed the issue with any other posting source. Ergo, Google
Groups is in some way different.

You are of course right and everyone else who has an IT background is
wrong.

Odd - that isn't it.

So if some other company sets up an NG access facility, let's call it
Snaffle Groups, which causes the same problem for the news client that *you*
use - then, of course, it would be your client that was at fault and not
Snaffle Groups?

It is nothing to do with the fact that postings from one source only
cause problems with a particular news client.

It is about the fact that postings from that source comply with the
agreed standards, while the one family of news clients that don't
handle those posts correctly do NOT comply with standards, and never
have.

Whenever one posting source causes problems for one or more news
clients, it is whichever does not comply with standards that is at
fault.
