Yes, I heard about that 14 years but I knew so that it can happen
only-
if you do something like bold speeding or using your satnav etc. -
when-
you cause the accident. If you do nothing like that and you do -
your-
best and still the accident happens then what are you sentenced to -
jail-
for? For not doing better than your best? This is really weird. I -
think-
everybody who drives a motor vehicle in the UK should read a -
forum-
topic like this - just to realize they are playing a kind of -
lottery-
each day they drive; a lottery where they can hit the "jackpot" -
time... and read it also to be clever what to tell and what not to
tell-
to the police 5 minutes after the accident...

I agree entirely.

The guidance suggests that the 5 year sentence (not 14 for death by
careless driving, that is death by dangerous driving) will only be
available for the most serious examples of the offence. However, it is

the most serious examples of causing death by *careless* driving which

is not sufficiently serious to be classed as dangerous. Careless
driving
has been described in case law as the sort of momentary lapse that
affects all drivers from time to time. So a momentary lapse that is not

dangerous could see you jailed for five years.

Huh, this is weird... It seems we are all indeed playing a kind of
lottery each time we drive any motor vehicle... I start to be afraid of
driving.

There is a thought that really weighs heavily on my mind: when this
accident happened, it was around 11:30 am, the weather was not rainy or
foggy, the traffic wasn't very high, I wasn't tired at all, I wasn't in
a hurry at all, I didn't drink alcohol (as I never drink because I
don't like alcohol), I didn't even turned on the car stereo (I very
rarely do that as I like to hear the noises of my car and the traffic),
I was driving carefully as always, I had been driving for 14 years
before without any problem making some 200,000 miles so far and still,
it happened now... So, after these, what if ... what if it happens
again? What if next time the other party is not that lucky and dies?
I'm really nervous and worried beacuse of this thought and it comes
into my mind in every 10 minutes... It seems driving carefully is just
not always enough (I'm the guy who drives at 69 mph on the motorway
while everybody else goes faster and passes me - I follow all the rules
and I drive defensive (I didn't have any special course but I read books
on this topic and follow the suggestions)).
