A freezer could also be used to store roadkill, so that you can cook
it later. Yep. freezers ARE useful, after all! Trouble is, I only have
a small one in the top of my fridge, so if I happen to run over an
elephant, I'm f***ed.
Then you problem is that your freezer is too small, buy a bigger one. Job
Done!
BTW my freezer still has a little roadkill deer in it and a couple of (shot)
rabbits some of last year's produce from my garden and a whole load of stuff
from Tesco's cheapy 'end of best before date' items.
Just last week I loaded it up with a few hundred mackerel fillets as the
shoals are hitting my local coastline and will do for the next few weeks. By
mid august I will have enough mackerel to last the entire year, all for free
thanks to my big freezer.
I DO have a freezer, but only for peas. It's no good for blackberries
anyway. You can't freeze them successfully, tomatoes, neither. Nor
bananas.
Then do something different with them. I produce a glut of tomatoes every
year that get preserved as passata, sauces, sun dried etc. I make blackberry
(called brambles up where I live) jam, wine, cordial and compote. No freezer
required.
I have never tried to preserve bananas, to be honest I'm unsure of what to
do with them.
Andy
I'm making blackberry *jelly* this year, as the pips in the jam
alternative can be a little "crunchy". If we ever get any summer sun
and the tomatoes actually thrive I plan to bottle some in Kilner jars.
Not available at Tesco's, but are available in my local high street
"everything bar the kitchen sink" shop.
