Scenario...

John, shop manager at outlet supplying goods to trade and public.
Employed there for over 20 years (started at ground level and worked
up to manager), everything going fine until new large corporate owners
took over some 3 years ago. New owners start cutbacks, some
unreasonable which affect the profitability of the company, John is
blamed for poor performance. Senior manager begins unreasonable
behaviour, checking up and hassling his mark many times each day, also
calling endless meetings and instructing him to work extra hours for
no extra pay (there is no union). Next, John is called to a
disciplinary (some 200 miles away) for missing a previous meeting with
his senior manager, and given a final written warning (excuse for
which is arrogant responses to the disciplinary). Finally, the next
working day John is hauled over again for not completeing some
paperwork and suspended pending an investigation which he is certain
will result in dismissal.

What are his rights please? This is not only a total setup which will
cost him a job he has held down for over 20 years, it could also cost
him a serious black mark on his CV in terms of any new prospects.

It sounds as though they are trying to save on the redundancy payout

you need paid advice from a lawyer specializing in employment law .
