Practice receptionists have the power of god and they know it - you
just
have to bite your tongue and pretend you don't mind them being shirty,
lazy,
sarcastic, rude and incompetent.
If you have a complaint about the practice, the best bet is to do it
in writing. AFAIK, GPs can throw people off their list for no or any
reason they choose. They are not employed by the NHS but are self
employed contractors.
That's not actually true. Doctors have to give very good reasons before
they can remove someone from their lists. Yes they are independent
contractors but to work for the NHS they have very strict rules to
follow and are regulated by Primary Care Trusts who pay them.
A doctor can remove a patient from his/her list without having to give
any reason. AFAIK the PCT have no power to overule such a decision
directly.
The PCT can absolutely overule by simply re-allocating the patient back to
the GP
Which the GP can refuse. Ergo the GP does have a de facto veto on a patient
if he wishes. In any case the doctor-patient relationship has clearly broken
down and I very much doubt the PCT would behave as you suggest.
