A common misconception. The applicability of a warranty is determined by the date of failure, not any other date. It failed under warranty regardless of when any remedy takes place.
I would love to get the monitor repaired, it was perfect for my requirements and took me a long time to find it. But how do I get the thing back! If Gateway can't repair it how would I get it fixed anyway.
You should have no difficulty in getting it back - it is your property. If Gateway won't return it then it's theft.
No not theft. For it to be theft it would be necessary to prove that in taking it from the OP the *intention* was to permanently deprive him of it.
Hardly likely in this case.
