Ah, but see how the postings drift in topic. What I said was
(broadly) 'have a chat to a group of kids when walking by, instead of
just walking past and calling them louts'.
There's a big difference between talking as you come across someone,
as opposed to 'befriending' them. Not that I agree that people
shouldn't befriend youngsters. Doing one thing does not lead to
someone doing another thing in the normal course of events. The
implication is that befriending means 'wanting to do illegal,
threatening things inthe long run'.
I agree society in the UK, amongst the world's most rubbish societies,
would tend to think along the negative lines suggested, but again, a
point I and others raised was: is this the way it should be? I think
most people would agree not. Whether they see themselves as part of
building a better society is, well, rather more suspect.
