Our insurance company passed on our details (without permission) to a
firm of solicitors. This firm have written several times and leave
telephone messages nearly every day.
Is it worth getting involved with them? Is there any realistic chance
of getting some compensation for my passenger or recovering the £75
excess?
You need to apportion blame something insurance companies are loath to
do, considering they all feed from the same trough.
Except when it's bleeding obvious who's to blame and importantly there
is no ongoing argument to that end (therefore leaving them with little
choice), their default position will always be knock for knock.
For this reason, insurers normally offer additional legal protection,
at a price, over and above your normal insurance premium.
If you haven't got such legal protection then you probably don't stand
a chance unless there's something obvious in your favour say the
police having charged the HGV driver with an offence.
