Luckily, as I was already slowing for the roundabout, I was able to bring my car to an abrupt halt as this moron passed just inches in front.
I watched a nearly identical incident 30 years ago in Rickmansworth. A young plod in a little Mk2 Escort came flying out of the police station in front of me, up the dual carriageway to the roundabout in the outside lane and then tried to cut across to the first exit on the assumption that the car in the inside lane just pulling onto the roundabout was also turning left. In fact he was going straight across, as was his right in that lane, and the plod had to slam the brakes on at the last second as he started to turn in front of this other car, did a 180 degree pirouette and ended up stalled on the roundabout facing back against the flow of traffic with his little blue light flashing forlornly on the car roof. By sheer luck he didn't hit anyone else but that's all it was - luck.
When they do drive into another vehicle, their mates "investigate" and find some way to put all the blame on the other driver.
While he and his female plod passenger sat embarrassed in the car the rest of us then drove carefully round him giving him dirty looks and in my case a hand gesture that indicated his sex life was probably a solo experience.LOL!
Are police drivers specially trained to endanger other road users or is it a natural talent?
A combination of arrogance, the belief that their supposedly "advanced" training makes them god's gift to driving and incapable of crashing plus a fair helping of actual incompetence and lack of experience.
Their so-called "advanced training" seems to be based on the idea that all other drivers are better than they. No matter how stupid and dangerous their driving be, we mere mortals are presumed capable of avoiding the collision and, if we fail it is entirely our fault.
