We have just moved home, and are still receiving mail for the previous
occupants. I have clearly marked their letters "not at this address" and
put
them back in the post box, but Royal Mail are still delivering the same
items back here.
What is our legal position please?
Why not be a bit more helpful to the previous occupier? Cross out your
address on the letters and replace with previous occupiers new address.
Remind previous occupier to get his new address registered where he
expects to receive post.
Why should anyone be certain to know the new address for the person you've
just bought a house from or even if they've actually bought another house?
It isn't something that would be on any legal correspondence so unless they
specifically told you there's no way you'd know it. When I bought my current
house the sellers did tell me their new address because we'd got to know
each other quite well and wanted to stay in touch. When I bought the
previous house to this I had no idea where the seller went to. I can't
recall if I even met them or was just shown round by an estate agent.
OK, if the previous owner doesn't inform of forwarding address, then
he is obviously not bothered about receiving the post. But I would
imagine that it could be quite important get the post forwarded. I
certainly forwarded all the letters that I received addressed to
previous owner.
