Sounds very sensible, both morally and legally, I put something similar on
the bills I give, things like : 'new brake parts fitted, these will take
time to bed in, please try to avoid heavy use for the first few hundred
miles if possible' etc.  Most people do not realise that there may/will be
any difference, so it is a good idea to warn them and avoid problems.

Doubtless, and you can put anything you like on your bills. But AFAIK
customers are not legally required to sign bills, just to pay them.

I always got a customers signature - it stopped them claiming that
certain work they had requested hadn't been done, or that they hadn't
asked for something to be done. It also proved they had actually
collected the car. ITYF many garages will require a signature before
releasing a car. I did hear a FOAF stoy a while back about a sole
trader mechanic, who didn't get a signature, and had the customer try
and claim that he had never picked up the car. (I believe the claim
was fogotten when the ST wanted to call the police.).

In general, it's good business practice to get a signature upon
reciept and releasing a car. It can prevent tiresome issues where
customers tell you their 400quid stereo is missing when they pick the
car up, or that you didn't tell them to bed the brakes in etc etc

True, but since he isn't legally required to warn them either, it
doesn't make a lot of difference.

I suspect (if it hasn't already happened) a court might rule a garage
has a Duty Of Care to it's customers, and a competent mechanic should
have warned a customer ... especially if it transpires that an element
of a mechanics training covers the dangers of changing brake parts.
