Re: Key fobs - for central locking / alarm - Vauxhall

Did you not try and replace the batteries yourself before going to the
shop? I would have. But never mind...

He's sold you a new fob based on incorrect advice and I'm sure that
he'll cancel the order if you "ask" him. Either he's a con-man or just
stupid (I suspect the former). I'd say that the advice that he gave
you is part of the contract so you are within your rights to cancel.
If no luck threaten him with trading standards / local newspaper. If
no luck there than go to the credit card company. Go on - name and
shame the shop. And let us know what happens.

I didn't know I could - I thought if I tried to do it I'd destroy the
electronics. I went to him as I'd was happy for him to charge me £20
for a not even 5 min job and less than £1 battery because he knew what
he was doing - its only when he said it was 'dead' and needed a new
fob that I got home and noticed it was designed to be opened - so I
did and surprised myself when I fixed it.

I spoke to vauxhall dealership today - pretended to be a potential
customer - asked how much to supply and fit a battery - he didn't ask
what model / year or car I had - he just told me to go to a local shop
and buy a large watch battery (give battery model number) and it would
take a few mins - very helpful and didn't want any money.

Spoke to trading standards advice line for about 10 mins - based on
what I said as above - it was a clear case of mis-representation - he
knew or should have known a new battery would do the job - and that it
was what I asked for - told me to go back and ask for a friendly
refund - if refused to come back to them.

He wasn't there today - so will go back tomorrow.

Both Vauxhall (Evans) and TS were very friendly and helpful
.
