Oh really. What makes you think that the Communications Act 2003 does
not apply? In particular, the section which says:
"a person who (a) dishonestly obtains an electronic communications
service, and (b) does so with intent to avoid payment of a charge
applicable to the provision of that service, is guilty of an offence".
It doesn't apply because I do pay for an ISP.
Oh - do you mean in the same way that if you are buying your own car
and are paying for it, it is OK to take and use someone else's?
Irrespective of the legal point of view, do you have a view on the
morals of freeloading in this way - or are you waiting for moral
guidance on this topic from the group as well?
It isn't freeloading as I do pay for my own account. <snip>
I hadn't realised that if you pay one ISP for an account, it gave you
free access to all other ISPs.
Now if I broke into someone's wireless router that was even weakly
secured, then perhaps it could be said I was trying to illegally
access their network, as some form of encryption does suggest that the
owner didn't want his internet connection to be a free for all.
Ah yes - the "I was passing a house and the front door was wide open
so the owner obviously invited me in to help myself to their
belongings" defence
.
