I'd suggest Ubuntu - www.ubuntu.com
There's a live CD which you can download & burn to a disc, boot from, and
you'll be running (albeit slowly) without actually installing anything to
your hard drive. It'll give you a good indication, but not _perfect_ - I
found a few drivers which installed automatically after a proper
installation which didn't work on the live CD.

Downloaded - made CD - booted from CD:
MP-BIOS bug 8254 timer not connected.........
I just cannot be arsed.
I cannot remember a version of Windows (even all those disks with
3.11) which did not at least boot up.
