The statutory duty is for education, not necessarily formal
education.

I am exceptionally keen for Home Schooling, as the State sector is now a
shadow of its former self, and acts as an agent of a morally corrupt and
ideologically perverse Government.

It is my experience that the informal education these
children receive is more than adequate to equip them for their future
lifestyle; they are not, after all, necessarily going to become
accountants.

Skilled in the art of selling dishcloths, steeling cars and carrying out
dreaful drive paving, is not necessarily an education, either formal or
informal.

Yet they know astronomy, agronomy, fine arts, music,
practical economics and (from bitter experience) micro-politics.

Some aspects are true, to live the life their life requires a keen survival
instinct, with highly developed predatory skilles. But, be careful to not
get drawn into the 'noble savage' myths that where common about american
indians, their life is not some kind of romantic idylic lifestyle riding
around in a painted wagon. Its a brutal life, scorned by all others who
arent also travellers, and at best is fed by low level criminality, and at
worse, much worse.

Your
model is OK for the masses, but not for free spirits. As Miss Jean
Brodie said "Education means, in Latin 'leading out'; what we have
here is intrusion" (paraphrased).

A fair point, education can mean different things to different people, but
lets not believe that while these children are not at school, they are
learning an array of wonderful life skills, they arent, all in steerage
having a jolly time singing folk songs and playing fiddles (ie Titanic).
